It is quite a rare breed, which differs by silky hair. In 1963 in California the Asian leopard cat was crossed with a domestic cat. Ten years later the further hybridization led to the appearance of Bengal cat with leopard coloring , first registered 1983.
Thanks to their origin from a wild cat bengals possess the corresponding temperament, distinguish by their health and stamina. All this defines the improvement of the breed which is not yet confessed by all associations. But the population of Bengal cats increases rapidly.
